FINALLY Time to Explore the Floors

It’s time! I’ve put off pulling up the carpet in the front room for almost 7 years even though I knew there was wood underneath. The only excuse?? I was scared. This house has been in so many families, over so many years, and through so many eras.

Forty-ish years ago, there was even a GRAND expansion that doubled the square footage, added an indoor pool, and an enormous master suite. We’ve heard from people who lived and/or visited here about a now non-existent powder room. And the two front doors have remained quite the speculation.

For real, I knew there was a chance that any of these changes had left a royal mess of the original flooring and if that was the case, I would need to be able to choose AND pay relatively quickly for a solution. For me, 1700 sq ft of wood floors on a whim was not an option.

So today we’re checking out the baseboard registers and getting ready to tear carpet up since our backordered floors are supposed to be here in TWO WEEKS. Chad decides we’ll go ahead and pull up the carpet. I’m so mad we didn’t do this earlier!!! This is literally less than 2.5 hours from the first image to the last.

In related news, the oldest child just arrived home from her big girl job and is indignant that she has to wait for her father and I to be done working tomorrow so that we can finish pulling the carpet in this room and see what we have to see!! (and is determined once that’s done to start on her own room!)
